October 2005 Asset Snapshot

October Snapshot of Net Worth...Pitiful but I'm lucky that I have very few liabilities.
My car's a third generation hand-me down, which is barely keeping it together. Paid $1,000 for it. I don't own a house. Emigrant Direct Savings Account is designated as my very small condo downpayment fund.

  1. Out of debt, contributing to your employer retire AND with over $23,000 in the bank. Hardly pitiful at all!

You're ahead of probably 90% of the folks out there- Way to Go!

If I might ask, exactly what's holing you in 'the OC'? Are your job skills portable? One way to start getting ahead is to consider relocating to a lower cost of living place, and having moved from California to the Midwest about five years ago, I'm here to tell you that some are very nice places to live.

  2. Amen to that, California is a place to come to once you've made money. It's getting really hard to get ahead.

  3. Belasarius,

Thanks so much for your encouragement!

What's holding me in the OC? Nothing that's rational, really. I'm here mainly because this is where I grew up and am used to. Also, most of my family is in the greater Los Angeles and OC area. Family's big with me. Still, I am leaving options open. After I stay with this job for a year or two, I am open to the idea of moving away from the area. Sacramento, outlying areas of seattle, portland, and salt lake city are all areas I will look into.

Where in the midwest are you in, Bel?

    Thanks!,

  4. Hi Poe,

I'm in SE Michigan, a rather nice place. BTW- I was sorry to read about your medical issues. I hope that all works out well for you, and you make a full recovery.

I don't know if you read Business Week. The current issue had a main article about the financial issues faced by the 20-30somethings. If nothing else, the stats might cheer you a bit, it would seem that carrying $50K+ dept is more the norm than the exception.
